St. Brigid's Sporting Heroes

St.Brigid's Sporting Heroes

We were delighted to learn this week of some incredible sporting achievements from two of our past pupils.

On the GAA field, Cian O'Sullivan, has been rewarded for his amazing performances this season for Dublin in the hurling championship with an All Star award. Cian ended the season as joint top-scorer from play in the Championship, with 5-22 to his name, alongside Tipperary’s John McGrath (7-16) who went on to win the All-Ireland.

Meanwhile, Tom Farrell, another past pupil of St.Brigid’s, earns his first International cap for the Ireland Men's Rugby team this Saturday versus Japan. Tom has worked tremendously hard at his sport for many years and this is just reward for his endless commitment and dedication.

Both Cian and Tom played hurling and football whilst at school in St.Brigid's. Tony Hegarty, who taught in St.Brigid's for many years and coached both Tom and Cian on the school teams remembers them fondly:

“Cian was always a natural talent, striking with both sides and always willing to listen to advice and improve his talents. He had the hurling sense to read the game and snap up breaks and clinically finish while Tom captained our senior footballers in Croke Park in 2005/06 - A gentleman and born leader”.

Perhaps the next Irish international or All Star is one of the girls or boys currently sitting in a classroom in St. Brigids?
