6th Class Girl's Football Season Report

23-October-24
6th class football girls 2024
St. Brigid’s 6th class girls football started the season in early September with a tough match against Belgrove. We showed hard work and determination all through the match even though we were down. We came away with a hard loss, ready to work on our football skills before the next match.
At our next training session we prepared for our next match against Scoil Mhuire Marino. With a few of our players away we knew we would have to put in our best effort so we battled through the match. After a tight first half, the forwards played an amazing second half so we came out on top. The final score was 3-7 to 0-2! Our confidence was through the roof!
Before our next match, we were closely watching the weather all through the school day hoping the rain and wind would clear before throw-in, unfortunately the rain stayed. The bad weather made it very difficult to get to Raheny where we were playing Scoil Áine and we didn’t have much time to warm up but that didn’t stop us. When the final whistle blew St Brigids had another incredible win! The score was 8-5 to 1-0! After that win we were through to the quarter-finals. We were delighted with ourselves!
On quarter finals day, we left the school early which gave us time to prepare ourselves for the game. We knew it was going to be a tough game as Pope John Paul ll topped their group. Starting fast gave us an early lead. Our defender’s tackled well to keep John Paul’s score down. At halftime we were ahead but we knew they weren’t going to let us away with an easy win. After some great scores we stayed ahead and won the quarter-finals. The final score was 3-3 to 1-6.
We were thrilled with ourselves to have reached the semi-finals. We started off against St. Pius X ready to give it our all. Unfortunately things didn’t go our way and we played our hearts out trying to get scores but that wasn’t enough. We came away with an upsetting score considering how much work we put in. We were devastated. It was an amazing experience for the whole team to get to play in a semi final. We would have loved to get to Croke Park but we still a chance with the camogie next Spring!
