Aoibheann & Ailbhe from 5th class have written a wonderful review of the 5th class Girl's Football season - Maith sibh a cailíní!
When the new school year started, we were delighted that we didn’t have long to wait for our school GAA to start! On the first day our hearts were thumping but there was no time time to be nervous as we got straight into a match on Day One! Our hard work in our club, St. Brigid’s GAA paid off as we played brilliantly as a team. The other team were also called St Brigid’s so it felt like everybody was cheering for us!
As our training continued we had a blast with our coaches Mr MacCann and Ms Raftery. We really improved and the training helped us to be more skillful and smarter in our games and we also had a lot of laughs!
Our next match was against our neighbours, Scoil Thomáis, who we got to play twice. We knew a lot of the girls from this team. Our squad ran through the pitch like we owned it! We played strongly until the last whistle. The entire team was so proud of this performance.
The next team we played was St Patrick’s and everyone played a tough game. We smashed it! It was a tight match and it ended in a draw but it was still lots of fun.
Our final game was away but we didn’t have far to travel as it was in Somerton. This was our second match against Scoil Thomáis.
It’s worth noting that the referees were fair and helpful and one in particular was very friendly and encouraging to both teams.
All the girls were sad to see the season come to an end. Thanks to our wonderful coaches for teaching us so much and most importantly making it fun! Naomh Bríd Abú!
